the West' exaggerates a wee bit, this five-museum complex is still a must-see. Entry is
valid for two consecutive days.
The original collection began in 1927 with the Buffalo Bill Museum , which presents a
wealth of fascinating, if uncritical, information on the life of William F Cody and his Wild
West shows. The Plains Indian Museum explores Native American culture and history
through its artistry. Displays detail Native American ceremonies such as the Sun Dance
(which honors the buffalo spirit) and explains the symbolism of tepee designs. Accounts
of life on the reservation are conspicuously absent.
With a powerhouse collection including Remington, Russell and NC Wyeth, the Whit-
ney Gallery of Western Art introduces Western art through the powerful and energetic
landscapes and wildlife scenes from the masters. Most who are not gun fanatics politely
rush through the Cody Firearms Museum . The newest addition, the Draper Museum of
Natural History , gives visitors an excellent interactive overview of Greater Yellowstone
ecology.

Curry and the Sundance Kid comprise this unique museum, a collection of late-19th-cen-
tury wooden buildings relocated here from all over Wyoming. Look for the bullet holes in
the door of the Rivers Saloon and the grave of mountain man Jeremiah 'Liver-Eating'
Johnson, reburied here in 1974 with Robert Redford as one of the pallbearers.
