In-Depth Information
An extensive trail network branches off the upper Lamar Valley from the Lamar River
Trailhead (3K1), 4.7 miles southwest of Pebble Creek Campground. The main trail is the
Lamar River Trail , which offers good early-morning wildlife-watching. Other trails lead
off this one, heading west after 1.4 miles to join the Specimen Ridge Trail, east to Cache
Creek after 3.1 miles, or east to Miller Creek after 9.3 miles. The Miller Creek Trail
eventually climbs up either Bootjack Gap or the sculptured peaks of the Hoodoo Basin for
an ambitious multiday expedition into the grizzly-filled Sunlight Basin of Shoshone Na-
tional Forest. The main trail continues south along the Lamar River, leading toward Wap-
iti Valley via the Frost Lake Trail, or to Yellowstone Lake via the prime grizzly habitat of
Mist Creek.
