In-Depth Information
Kennels
Kennels can be found in most gateway towns. If you don't see one, ask for the local veter-
inary clinic where staff can indicate the best local kennels or private dog-sitting services.
Look for kennels that are ABKA (American Boarding Kennel Association) certified.
When choosing a kennel, ask for a walk through. Consider the following factors: the size
of the sleeping space, the presence of outdoor yards or play spaces, the number of daily
walks or play sessions, the size and attentiveness of the staff and the kennel's certifica-
tions. Some even have webcams, so brooding pet parents won't miss a whimper. Facilities
that always keep dogs separate might keep your teacup poodle out of a tussle or prevent it
from catching an illness from another dog. Some prefer some canine company to pass the
time (in this case, ensure it is well supervised). Kennels may also provide lodgings for
cats, birds and fish.
Visitor centers can usually provide information on local veterinary clinics.
