The Bio-jETI Framework
Bio-jETI [201, 174] is a comprehensive framework for management of variant-
rich bioinformatics workflows that has largely been conceived in the scope of
this work. It is based on the jABC framework [306, 229] for model-driven,
service-oriented workflow development. Providing comprehensive means for
the design, execution and deployment of workflows, already the standard
jABC framework covers the common aspects of workflow management.
The distinctive feature of Bio-jETI in contrast to other scientific workflow
systems is the incorporation of two different notions of constraint-based meth-
ods into the workflow development process, also illustrated by Figure 2.1:
Constraint-guarded workflow design is a development style that is facili-
tated by the available model-checking functionality. It provides means for
reasoning about workflow properties at the user level: workflow design is
