Introduction
This topic addresses the challenge of user-level workflow design with a par-
ticular focus on the bioinformatics application domain. Towards this aim,
it follows a novel, constraint-driven approach to domain-specific design and
management of variant-rich workflows and systematically evaluates its fea-
tures based on a selection of bioinformatics application scenarios. This intro-
ductory chapter motivates the work (Section 1.1) and outlines the results and
structure of this topic (Sections 1.2 and 1.3, respectively).
