Y axis scale
Now we move onto the Y axis. I mounted a piece of aluminium angle to the Y
axis back plate of the readout slide ensuring it was parallel to the edge using
a surface plate (use the milling machine table if you do not have a surface
plate).
I fixed the angle, together with the back plate, to the underside of the cross
slide and clocked it true. It is very important that the angle is parallel to the
machine's Y axis travel in both directions.
The scale was fitted next and the reading head was screwed to another bit
of aluminium angle. A large aluminium bracket was fixed to the knee cast-
ing and was also fixed to the bottom of the angle that the reading head was
mounted on. This bracket was free to move up and down to align it with the
reading head bracket. All was then tightened up and both scales are now fit-
ted.
