TESTING A SECOND-HAND MILLING MACHINE
The first thing I would do (after making sure it was safe to do so) would be to
switch the milling machine on.
Earth leakage test
Before doing any further tests, to test a single-phase milling machine I would
use an earth leakage trip. This is the type of earth leakage trip/tester sold for
use with lawn mowers to stop you electrocuting yourself when you cut the
lawnmower lead in half. This will not guarantee electrical safety but it will help
to eliminate an unsafe milling machine at the outset. I would also use an elec-
trical test meter to ensure the motor frame and the milling machine metalwork
has a continuous earth.
