column is very heavy even with everything removed. It will take three very strong
men to lift it.
The next thing I did was to fit a longitudinal X axis table feed. This is a de-
sirable addition as you get a much finer finish than winding the table along by
hand. Make sure you fit power-off switches at each end of the table; you do
not want to burn out the power feed motor or ruin the leadscrew nut or even
the leadscrew itself. Model Engineers' Workshop magazine has run several
different articles on installing a power feed to a milling machine.
My Tom Senior has a couple of small cuts taken from the table by cutters
that have pulled out of the collet (not done by me). This is not a major prob-
lem, but be sure that any cut-outs on the milling machine you buy will not af-
fect the accuracy of work or vices clamped to the milling machine's table.
