Buying the Mill
BUYING NEW
Suppliers
There are several suppliers of milling machines that advertise regularly in the
UK and many more suppliers in various countries around the world. Many of
these mills all come from the same Chinese factories and just have slightly
different features and paint jobs. A list of suppliers is included at the end of
this topic.
You should look carefully at the company you are considering purchasing a
milling machine from. The cheapest milling machine may not necessarily be
the best but neither may the most expensive one either. Look at the price by
all means but also look at the after sales service, the availability of accessor-
ies and whether they can supply replacement spindle gears and/or speed
control boards. A machine with a broken gear or a duff speed controller won't
do a lot of milling.
There are several model engineering exhibitions held in the UK every year
where you can go and view the various makes of milling machine and com-
pare their size and features. No doubt there are many exhibitions of this type
throughout the world where you can get a 'hands on' experience with a milling
machine.Dobeawarethatmanyofthesesupplierswillrunoutofstockduring
these exhibitions and it could be a two to three month delivery before new
stock arrives from China. If you have decided on the milling machine you
want, do try and order it prior to the next model engineering exhibition to en-
sure availability.
