Types of tap
For our purposes, you will probably use either hand taps or machine taps.
The hand taps will be used with a tap wrench as mentioned previously, while
machine taps will probably be put through the work under power but only if
the tapping hole is drilled right through the work.
REAMERS
Types of reamer
As with taps, you will probably come across hand and machine reamers.
Hand reamers can be used the same way as taps with a shank support. A
hand reamer normally has a tapered lead on its front to lead the reamer into
the hole.
A machine reamer has a parallel cutting diameter and needs to be held in
the machine's chuck or collet or possibly in the machine's Morse taper, de-
pending on the type of shank it has.
