Using an engraving cutter
Another type of cutter that can be used as a centre drill is an engraving cutter.
You can get engraving cutters with various angles of point. These cutters are
usually very sharp and if set right into the chuck or collet, they are very ri-
gid. I find these engraving cutters are very useful as centre drills and they can
be used to cut a centre on an angular face if used carefully. I have used this
method on aluminium and brass components. I have not used them on steel
but if care is used, they should be quite satisfactory.
