OTHER INDEXERS
Another simple type of dividing head is a spin indexer. The main type of spin
indexer is a simple bracket with a spindle, a handle and a locking bolt. You
simply put a pin through a division plate to index any amount up to 360 de-
greesbyonedegreeincrements.Youcanmakeadifferentindexplate(simple
to do from sheet metal) so that any number or position of holes can be in-
dexed quickly and accurately.
The other simple dividing head is a bit more complicated; it allows you to
index up to 36 positions by the simple operation of a lever. You can block off
any of the 36 positions by tightening an Allen screw in any of the holes that
do not require indexing.
Both of these indexers use C5 collets. The spin indexer can only be used
horizontally (it can also be set in the vice or on an adjustable angle plate on
small angles), but the other type of indexer can be used both vertically and
horizontally.
