In-Depth Information
Fig. 8.21. The holes were pitched out in the X and Y directions to give four holes.
The four-jaw chuck
Irregular castings can often be held in a four-jaw chuck on the machine's table
for machining. Just clamp down the four-jaw chuck and set up the casting.
Chucks and the angle plate
Any of the previously described chucks can also be clamped at right angles to
an angle plate for further work on the sides of components. A typical example
of this is to use a slitting saw to cut a slot in the head of a threaded compon-
ent, to take a screwdriver or to drill a cross hole in a bit of bar.
The Keats vee angle plate
Although the Keats vee angle plate is normally used on a lathe's faceplate,
there is no reason why you cannot use it on the milling machine's table or
mounted on an angle plate. Do consider this method, as you will find it useful.
