Clamping castings
You should use a piece of soft packing (such as thin cardboard) between the
rough casting and the surface of the angle plate or machine's table to stop
indentations from the casting ruining the machine or fixture.
Clamping a casting often requires various thicknesses of packing and shim
while being clamped down. Try not to distort the casting as it may not be flat
when the clamps are removed.
