Home-made long piece table vice
A simple vice that will hold work flat to the table can be simply made from
some offcuts of square bar, although rectangular bar would be better. You
should make two fixed jaws and a moving jaw. The fixed jaws are just
clamped down to the machine table at positions to suit the length of the work-
piece, leaving room inside for the workpiece and the moving jaw.

al to the machine table. Insert two or three Allen screws and you can tighten
up the moving jaw by the use of these screws. A couple of clamping holes in
the moving jaw will enable you to nip the moving jaw down when it is tight. Do
not tighten this vice too much or you may distort or even break the table - this
is unlikely, but do use a bit of common sense when tightening up this type of
vice.
