nominal size. The ER collets are designed to take a plain shank cutter but are
fine with cutters that have a flat ground on them.
You can also get small ER holders with parallel shanks. These are ideal for
using as extended cutter holders.
Most small milling machines will have an ER16 (0.5-10mm), an ER 20
(0.5-13mm) or an ER 25 (0.5-16mm) collet set, most often on a 2 or 3 Morse
taper. Some of the larger home milling machines may have an ER collet hold-
er mounted on an R8 shank.
