Decades ago, according to legend, the Attic was a shoot-
ing gallery-bowling alley combo. It first became a restaurant in the mid-1930s, then be-
came a tavern in the ̓50s. The current building dates from 1967 - it's a friendly neigh-
borhood pub and a good spot to watch a game of footy while you have a beer and per-
haps a handmade burger.

When
CD-based Tougo almost went under in 2011, the local community dipped into its col-
lective pocket and helped raise the $10,000 necessary to keep it afloat. A cafe worth
fighting for. Enough said.

Cortona opened in 2009 in a quiet residential part of the CD. It's a small but at-
tractive cafe with a loft space upstairs that has become known for its sweet breakfast
waffles.
