the preparation of amylose-polymer inclusion complexes is named
“vine-twining polymerization” (Fig. 7.1) [15-24]. In this chapter, the
procedure, the principal result, and the proposed mechanism for the
vine-twining polymerization are described.
7.2
Preparation of Amylose-
Poly(Tetrahydrofuran) Inclusion Complex
First example of the method leading to an amylose-polymer
inclusion complex was achieved by amylose-forming polymerization
in the presence of poly(tetrahydrofuran) (PTHF) (
= 4000) as
a guest polymer [25]. The phosphorylase-catalyzed enzymatic
polymerization of Glc-1-P from Glc
M
n
as the primer was performed in
the presence of a telechelic PTHF with hydroxy end groups in sodium
citrate buffer at ca. 40
7
°
C (Fig. 7.2a). The resulting product was isolated
and characterized by means of XRD and
H NMR measurements. The
XRD pattern of the product (Fig. 7.3a) was completely different from
that of amylose (Fig. 7.3b) and PTHF, and was similar to that of the
