RandomampliicationofpolymorphicDNA(RAPD)isatypeofPCRreactionwithDNAsequences
ampliiedrandomly.RAPDisappliedbyusingseveralarbitrary,shortprimers(8-12nucleotides)tothe
DNAbasedonthefactthatsomepartsoftheDNAwillamplify.Byresolvingtheresultingpatterns
byagarosegelelectrophoresis,itispossibletodifferentiatestrainsofthesameorganism.Themethod
hasbeenusedtoassesspopulationsofmRNAwithdifferentialdisplay(LiangandPaedee1992)or
arbitrarilyprimedPCR(Welshetal.1992),ampliicationofrandommRNAsubsets,andsubsequent
analysisoftheresultingfragmentpoolbygelelectrophoresis(Argyropoulosetal.2008).
