9.13.2 General Speciications
High-fructosestarch-derivedsyrup42(HFSS-42)uponreceiptshouldcomplywiththefollow-
ing,plusanylocalfoodregulationsconsistentwithitsintendeduse.
HFSS-42mustbemanufactured,packaged,stored,andshippedundersanitaryconditionsappro-
priatetofoodproductsandmustbeincompliancewithallapplicablefoodhygiene,health,andsanitary
requirementsandregulationsineffectatthemanufacturingandreceivinglocations.Thisincludesall
applicablegoodmanufacturingpractices,lawsandregulations(nationalandlocal),andlocal,national,
andinternationaltransportregulationsasappropriatebetweenmanufacturingandreceivinglocations.
Thesuppliermustperformresidualpesticidetestingonasemiannualbasis.Residualpesticides
mustbedeinedasanyorganicorsyntheticmaterialusedtoprotectcropsfrompests.
HFSS-42mustbelabeledanddeliveredincontainersapprovedforfoodusebyallapplicable
regulatoryagencies.
HFSScontainersmustbeequippedwithnontoxic,supplier-identiiable,tamper-evidentseals.
9.13.3 Storage Conditions
TheidealstoragetemperatureforHFSSis27°C-30°C.Itshouldnotbestoredabove35°C.
9.14 SeDIMeNt: NUtrItIVe SWeeteNerS
9.14.1 purpose
ThisprocedureisusedtoidentifypotentialsourcesofsedimentinsyrupandbeveragesHFSS-
42,HFSS-55,andliquidsucrose.Thisprocedureisnotaroutineanalysis.Itshouldbeusedonlyif
avisualcheckshowsthatsedimentispresent.

Forthevisualmethod,samplepreparationforthevisualsedimenttestrequiresdilutingordis-
solving300gofsweetenerinabout300mlofhot,distilledwater.
Testcompletionforthevisualmethodisdescribedasfollows:
1. Filterthesolutionthroughacoarseilterpaper(WhatmanNo.54oritsequivalent).
2. Washtheilterpaperwithdistilledwateranddryinanovenat105°C.
3. Ifsedimentispresent,comparewithastandardsedimentdiscwithapanscaleequalto2mg/kg.Do
thegravimetricsedimenttestifthesedimentlevelismorethan2mg/kg.
