In-Depth Information
Hiking
Trails - from gentle jaunts around an interpretive path to breath-sapping slogs up a
mountain - crisscross the area's national and provincial parks. And hiking - aside from
being low-cost - is the most enjoyable way to absorb the region.
The hiking season runs from May to October, with optimal conditions from July on-
ward, when the trails have dried out. Maps are available at park information centers, al-
though for extended hikes you may need topographic maps.
And don't forget that Canada is also home to one of the most ambitious paths ever
Cape Spear in Newfoundland that runs all the way across the country to Victoria, British
Columbia. It's still a work in progress, but trails in the provinces sometimes coincide
with it.
