GETTING AROUND
Air
Airlines in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island
Most regional flights within the Maritimes are operated by Air Canada's subsidiary, Air
Canada Jazz. Small provincial airlines fly out to the more remote portions of the region.
Fares in such noncompetitive markets can be high.
The following are the main carriers flying within Atlantic Canada:
Air Canada & Air Canada Jazz (AC;

throughout the region.
Air Labrador ( 800-563-3042; www.airlabrador.com ) Flies mostly within Labrador.
Air St-Pierre (PJ; 877-277-7765, 902-873-3566; www.airsaintpierre.com ) Flights from
the French island of St Pierre to St John's, Halifax, Sydney and Moncton.
Provincial Airlines ( 800-563-2800; www.provincialairlines.ca ) St John's-based airline
with service throughout Newfoundland and to Labrador.
WestJet (WS; 888-937-8538; www.westjet.com ) Nationwide discount carrier with a
route between St John's and Halifax.
Air Passes
Star Alliance ( www.staralliance.com ) members Air Canada, United Airlines and US Air-
ways have teamed up to offer the North American Airpass, which is available to anyone
not residing in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean. It's sold only in con-
junction with an international flight operated by any Star Alliance-member airline. You can
buy as few as three coupons or as many as 10. Prices start at around C$800 for three
flights.
Bicycle
The Maritime provinces, particularly Prince Edward Island, are ideal for bicycle touring.
Transportation
ยป By air: most airlines will carry bikes as checked luggage without charge on international
flights, as long as they're in a box. On domestic flights they usually charge between $30
and $65. Always check details before you buy the ticket.
