Getting Around
Public transportation is available in cities and between larger towns but most visitors rent
a car.
Car Good-value rentals are available in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Prince Edward
Island and Newfoundland have fewer vehicles available and higher prices.
Train Clean, economical and reliable VIA Rail ( Click here ) connects Halifax to Montreal
via New Brunswick.
Bus Better coverage than trains; places not serviced by buses usually have private
shuttle services for similar fares, more cramped seating and door-to-door service.
Keep in Mind
Remember the large scale of Canada's Atlantic provinces: distances can be large and
travel times slow. Consider exploring just one or two regions in depth.
Blackflies and mosquitoes can be a major annoyance in the summer. Bring insect repel-
lent and cover up, especially in northern and woodsy regions.
Book ahead for transportation and accommodation in summer.
