In-Depth Information
Trail (2.7km) leaves the interpretive center and takes you to the west side of the cape - at
sunset these crimson cliffs simply glow against the deep-blue waters.
Above the interpretive center, the atmospheric Wind & Reef Restaurant & Lounge (
902-882-3535; mains $9-29; lunch & dinner) attracts visitors and locals out for a treat.
The menu and view are equally vast and pleasing.

West Coast
In Miminegash, stop into the Seaweed Cafe (meals $5-12) that serves a special seaweed
pie, although nothing about this fluffy, creamy creation reeks of the beach.
Inland at O'Leary is the Canadian Potato Museum ( 902-859-2039; 1 Dewar Lane; ad-
mission $8; 9am-5pm Mon-Sat, 1-5pm Sun May-Oct) . It's a bit like a giant school science
fair project with hallways of information panels and pictures on the walls.
Between Miminegash and West Point, Rte 14 hugs the shore and provides stunning
vistas. It's perhaps the finest drive on the island. Off Hwy 14, the striking black-and-
white-striped West Point Lighthouse ( 800-764-6854, 902-859-3605;
www.westpointlighthouse.com ; 8am-9:30pm) dates from 1875. There's a small museum
(admission $4; 9am-9pm) , where you can climb the tower for a breathtaking view. Part
of the former lighthouse keepers' quarters have been converted into a nine-room inn
( www.westpointlighthouse.com ; d $170;
Jun-Sep;
) ; the Tower Room is actually in
the old lighthouse tower. The restaurant (meals $8-18;
8am-8pm) is locally famous for
its clam chowder.
Cedar Dunes Provincial Park ( 902-859-8785; campsites $23-25, RV sites $26-27) has
tent space in an open grassy field adjacent to West Point Lighthouse. Its red-sand beach
is an island gem.
