Bay St Lawrence
Bay St Lawrence is a picturesque little fishing village at the very north edge of Cape Bre-
ton Island.
Captain Cox ( 888-346-5556, 902-383-2981; Bay St Lawrence Wharf; adult/child $45/25)
has been taking people to see whales aboard the 35ft Northern Gannet since 1986. He
does trips at 10:30am, 1:30pm and 4:30pm in July and August. Call for spring and fall
schedules.
Jumping Mouse Campground ( 902-383-2914; www.ecocamping.ca ; 3360 Bay St
Lawrence Rd; campsites/cabins $25/40; Jun-Sep) is an ecofriendly campground with 10
oceanfront sites (no cars allowed). Reservations are accepted for multinight stays and for
a beautifully built four-bunk cabin. There are hot showers, a cooking shelter, frequent
whale sightings and the whole place is nearly bug-free.
To enjoy Aspy Bay and its spectacular beach just for an afternoon, stop at nearby
Cabot's Landing Provincial Park ( www.parks.gov.ns.ca ) .
Meat Cove
The northernmost road in Nova Scotia finishes at the steep, emerald coast of Meat Cove,
13km northwest of Bay St Lawrence (the last 7km of the road is gravel). As well as
watching for frolicking whales in unbelievably clear water, keep an eye on the earth for
orchids - some rare species here aren't found anywhere else in Nova Scotia.

Cape St Lawrence Lighthouse HIKING
From Meat Cove, a 16km hiking trail continues west to Cape St Lawrence lighthouse
and Lowland Cove. Spend an hour gazing over the ocean and you're guaranteed to see
