In-Depth Information
Partridge Island ISLAND
Steeped in history, Partridge Island is the most popular shoreline to search for gems,
semiprecious stones and fossils. Connected to the mainland by an isthmus, the island is
4km south of town on Whitehall Rd. From the end of the beach, a 3km hiking trail with
explanatory panels climbs to the top of the island for superb views of Cape Blomidon
and Cape Split.
Ottawa House Museum MUSEUM
( 902-254-2376; www.ottawahousemuseum.ca ; 1155 Whitehall Rd; admission $2; 10am-6pm)
Just before the beach is Ottawa House Museum, a 21-room mansion that was once the
summer home of Sir Charles Tupper (1821-1915), who served as both premier of Nova
Scotia and prime minister of Canada. The museum has exhibits on shipbuilding, rum-
running and the former settlement on Partridge Island.

Harbour View Restaurant CANADIAN $$$
(145 Pier Rd; mains $9-16; 7am-8pm) Hang out with the local fishers devouring Parrs-

and more. It's right on the water, but the set-up blocks most of the view.
