L'Acadie Vineyards ( 902-542-8463; www.lacadievineyards.ca ; 310 Slayter Rd; cottages
$150; 10am-5pm May-Oct) Overlooking Gaspereau Valley, this geothermally
powered winery grows certified-organic grapes to make traditional-method spark-
ling and dried-grape wines. You can also stay in one of three country-style two-bed-
room, kitchen-equipped cottages, which, of course, include a free bottle of wine.
Luckett Vineyards ( www.luckettvineyards.com ; 1293 Grand Pré Rd, Wolfville; tastings $7,
lunch mains $9-15; 10am-5pm May-Oct) This is one of the best destination wineries
in the region, with palatial views over the vines and hillsides down to the Bay of
Fundy cliffs. After sampling the red, white, fruit and dessert wines, and the particu-
larly good ice wine, chill on the patio and dine on gourmet sandwiches, soups and
salads at lunch or, in summer, on fine set meals at dinner. There's also an old Brit-
ish phone box in the vineyards, from where you can make free calls to anywhere in
Canada!
Domaine de Grand Pré ( 902-542-1753; http://grandprewines.ns.ca ; 11611 Hwy 1; tours
$9; 10am-6pm, tours 11am, 3pm & 5pm) A great destination winery and one of the
best known in the province, it has a delicious spicy muscat and a nice sparkling
Champlain Brut. The tours take about 45 minutes or you can do tastings and stroll
through the vines by yourself. Le Caveau Restaurant has been named one of the 20
best winery restaurants in the world byWine Accessmagazine.

Wolfville
Wolfville has a perfect blend of old college-town culture, small-town homeyness, and the
fine food and drink scene that's grown around the surrounding wine industry. The stu-
dents and faculty of Acadia University make up about 50% of the town's 7000-plus res-
idents. Just outside town, you'll find Acadian dikes, scenic drives and some of the best
hiking along the Fundy Coast. It's considered one of the most livable and diverse towns
in the province; some 12% of the residents have moved here from outside Canada.
