First settled by New Englanders from Massachusetts in 1761, Yarmouth reached its peak
of growth and prosperity in the 1870s. The Collins Heritage Conservation District pro-
tects many fine Victorian homes built around that time. Check at the visitor information

Yarmouth Light NOTABLE BUILDING
( 902-742-1433; Hwy 304; 9am-9pm) Yarmouth Light is at the end of Cape
Forchu, left on Hwy 304 from Main St. The lighthouse affords spectacular views and
there's a tearoom below. Stop at Stanley Lobster Pound (Hwy 304; 11am-7pm Mon-Sat,
2-7pm Sun) , where you can get a fresh-cooked lobster at market-value price to take and
eat on the beach.
Art Gallery of Nova Scotia GALLERY

Practical Yarmouth is the unexpected home to the refreshingly cosmopolitan Art Gallery
of Nova Scotia. The new three-storey building has well-selected works from mostly
Maritime artists.
Yarmouth County Museum MUSEUM

9am-5pm Mon-Sat, 2-5pm Sun) This museum, in a former church, contains five period
rooms related to the sea. The ticket includes Pelton-Fuller House ( 9am-5pm Mon-Sat
Jun-Oct) next door, which is filled with period artwork, glassware and furniture.

Lakelawn B&B Motel MOTEL $

and service oriented as motels come. Rooms are clean and basic; the owner Mathew is a
well of local info; and some of the better meals in town are available in the country-style
