and ANME-2 Archaea in consortia with sulfate reducers or without them.
Future research combining FISH, quantitative gene expression studies, protein
isolation and sequencing, and biogeochemical rate measurements could help to
resolve one of the largest Black Sea scientific mysteries related to methane cy-
cling - simultaneous co-existence of methane oxidation, production and sulfate
reduction.
