In-Depth Information
Like Las Vegas, Orlando is almost entirely given over to fantasy. It's a place to come
when you want to imagine you're somewhere else: Hogwarts, perhaps, or Cinderella's
Castle, or Dr Seuss' world, or an African safari. And like Vegas' casinos, Orlando's
theme parks work hard to be constantly entertaining thrill rides where the only concern is
your pleasure. Even outside the theme parks, Orlando can exhibit a hyper atmosphere of
fiberglass-modeled, cartoon-costumed pop culture amusement.
Yet there is, in fact, a real city to explore, one with tree-shaded parks of the natural
variety, art museums, orchestras, and dinners that don't involve high-fiving Goofy. And
just outside the city, Florida's wilderness and wildlife, particularly its crystal springs, can
be as memorably bizarre as anything Ripley ever dreamed up.
