mean it: opening at 7am, this is Party Central for bikers and others who want to go
bonkers. Expect to see flashing chicks, smoky beards and more leather than on an Afric-
an safari.

Getting There & Around
Daytona Beach International Airport ( 386-248-8030; www.flydaytonafirst.com ; 700
Catalina Dr) is just east of the Speedway, and the Greyhound bus station
( www.greyhound.com ; 138 S Ridgewood Ave) is the starting point for services around Florida.
Daytona is close to the intersection of two of Florida's major interstates: I-95 is the
quickest way to Jacksonville (about 90 miles) and Miami (260 miles), and I-4 leads to
Orlando in an hour.

St Augustine

The first this, the oldest that… St Augustine was founded by the Spanish in 1565, which
means it's chock-full of age-related superlatives. Tourists flock here to stroll the ancient
streets, and horse-drawn carriages clip-clop past townsfolk dressed in period costume
around the National Historic Landmark District, aka the oldest permanent settlement in
the US.
At times St Augustine screams, 'Hey, everyone, look how quaint we are!' but it stops
just short of feeling like a historic theme park because, well, the buildings and monu-
ments are real, and the narrow, cafe-strewn lanes are genuinely charming. Walk the
cobblestoned streets or stand where Juan Ponce de León landed in 1513, and the historic-
al distance occasionally collapses into present-moment chills.
