In-Depth Information
GAY & LESBIAN KEY WEST
Gay and lesbian visitors can get information at the Gay & Lesbian Community
Center ( 305-292-3223; www.glcckeywest.org ; 513 Truman Ave) . While you'll find the entire
island extraordinarily welcoming, several bars and guesthouses cater specifically
to a gay clientele. Toast your arrival in town at one of the following:
801 Bourbon Bar ( www.801bourbon.com ; 801 Duval St) , where boys will be boys.
Aqua ( 305-294-0555; www.aquakeywest.com ; 711 Duval St) caters to both gays and
lesbians.
Pearl's Patio ( 305-292-1450; www.pearlsrainbow.com ; 525 United St;
noon-10pm
Sun-Thu, to midnight Fri & Sat) is a lesbian bar at Pearl's Guesthouse.
Drinking & Entertainment
Hopping (or staggering) from one bar to the next - also known as the 'Duval Crawl
( Click here ) ' - is a favorite pastime here in the Conch Republic, and there are plenty of
options for your drinking pleasure.
Green Parrot BAR
( www.greenparrot.com ; 601 Whitehead St; 10am-4am) This rogue's cantina has the longest
tenure of any bar on the island (since 1890). It's a fabulous dive drawing a lively mix of
locals and out-of-towners, with a century's worth of strange decor. Men, don't miss the
urinal.
Captain Tony's Saloon BAR
( www.capttonyssaloon.com ; 428 Greene St) This former icehouse, morgue and Hemingway
haunt is built around the town's old hanging tree. The eclectic decor includes emancip-
ated bras and signed dollar bills.
Porch BAR
( www.theporchkw.com ; 429 Caroline St; 10am-2am Mon-Sat, noon-2am Sun) Escape the
Duval St frat boy bars at the Porch, where knowledgeable bartenders dispense artisan
beers. It sounds civilized, and almost is, by Key West standards.
Garden of Eden BAR
