GUIDE TO MIAMI BEACHES
The beaches around Miami are some of the best in the country. The water is clear
and warm. They're also informally zoned into areas with their own unique crowds
so that everyone can enjoy them at their own speed.
Scantily-Clad Beaches
In South Beach between 5th St and 21st St, modesty is in
short supply.
Family-Fun Beaches
North of 21st St is where you'll find the more family-friendly
beaches, and the beach at 53rd St has a playground and public toilets.
Nude Beaches
Nude bathing is legal at Haulover Beach Park in Sunny Isles. North
of the lifeguard tower is predominantly gay; south is straight.
Gay Beaches
All of South Beach is gay-friendly, but a special concentration seems
to hover around 12th St.
Windsurfing Beaches
Hobie Beach, along the Rickenbacker Causeway on the way
to Key Biscayne, is actually known as 'Windsurfing Beach.'
Sleeping
Miami Beach is the well-hyped mecca for stylish boutique hotels in renovated art-deco
buildings. To find them and other chic options, check out

. Rates vary widely by season and all bets are off during
spring break, when rates can quintuple; the summer months are slowest. For hotel park-
ing, expect to pay $20 to $35 a night.
