sorts of water-related activities: kayaking, waterskiing, windsurfing, parasailing,
waverunners and boats. You can find locations up and down the beach; your best bet is to
call first to find out where to go for whatever it is you want to rent.
Sailboards Miami
WATER SPORTS
( 305-892-8992;

;
1 Rickenbacker Causeway; 10am-6pm Fri-Tue)
The waters off Key Biscayne are perfect for windsurfing, kayaking and kiteboarding; get
your gear and lessons here.
MIAMI FOR CHILDREN
The best beaches for kids are in Miami Beach north of 21st St, especially at 53rd
St, which has a playground and public toilets, and the dune-packed beach around
73rd St. Also head south to Matheson Hammock Park, which has calm artificial la-
goons.
Miami Seaquarium
(
www.miamiseaquarium.com
;
4400 Rickenbacker Causeway; adult/
child $40/30; 9:30am-6pm, last entry 4:30pm)
On the way to Key Biscayne, this
38-acre marine-life park is more extensive than the usual aquarium; it also rehabil-
itates dolphins, manatees and sea turtles, and presents great animal shows. You
can swim with the dolphins.
Miami Children's Museum
(
www.miamichildrensmuseum.org
; 980 MacArthur Causeway;
admission $16; 10am-6pm)
On Watson Island, between downtown Miami and
Miami Beach, this hands-on museum has fun music and art studios, as well as
some branded 'work' experiences that make it feel a tad corporate.
Jungle Island
(
www.jungleisland.com
; 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail, off MacArthur Causeway;
adult/child $35/27; 10am-5pm)
Jungle Island is packed with tropical birds, alligat-
ors, orangutans, chimps and (to the delight of Napoleon Dynamitefans) a liger, a
cross between a lion and a tiger.
Zoo Miami
(Metrozoo;
www.miamimetrozoo.com
;
12400 SW 152nd St; adult/child $16/12;
9:30am-5:30pm, last admission 4pm)
Miami's tropical weather makes strolling
around Zoo Miami almost feel like a day in the wild. For a quick overview (and be-
cause the zoo is so big), hop on the Safari Monorail; it departs every 20 minutes.
There's a glut of grounds tours available, and kids will love feeding the Samburu
giraffes ($2).
