Spring Training
Forget daylight savings - for many Florida residents, the seasons are measured by the be-
ginning and end of baseball spring training. Every March, 15 major league baseball
teams hold their spring training in stadiums across central and south Florida, where sun-
shine is practically guaranteed. The intimate stadiums put you within spitting and signing
distance of big leaguers and future hall of famers, making it a pilgrimage for fans of
teams like the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies (not
to mention several Florida-based teams). Around 240 exhibition games are held over 30
days, and fans have been known to camp out for prime seats. For information, visit

HIAASEN'S FLORIDA
