motor inns in the United States (started in the 1930s and on the National Register of His-
toric Places), these five units bring you back to simpler times. Rooms have period decor-
ations and fixtures, though a recent renovation upgraded the beds, hardwood floors and
flatscreen TVs into borderline trendy territory.

of the Magnolia Café lies the Birdman, the spot for a local breakfast (old-fashioned yel-
low grits, sweet-potato pancakes etc) and local art.

Sun-Wed, to 9pm Thu & Sat, to 10pm Fri) The nucleus of what's happening in St Francisville,
the Magnolia Café used to be a health-food store/VW bus repair shop. Now it's where
people go to eat, socialize and dance to live music on Friday night. Try the cheesy
shrimp po'boy.
