Getting Around
TO/FROM THE AIRPORT
There's an information booth at the airport's A&B concourse. The

runs to downtown hotels. The
picks up outside entrance 7 on the airport's upper level; it stops along Airline Hwy (Hwy
61) on its way into town (final stop Tulane and Loyola Aves). After 7pm it only goes to
Tulane and Carrollton Aves in Mid-City; a solid 5 miles through a dreary neighborhood
to get to the CBD, from here you must transfer to a Regional Transit Authority (RTA)
bus - a haphazard transfer at best, especially with luggage.
Taxis downtown cost $34 for one or two people, $14 more for each additional passen-
ger.
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
Bringing a car is a useful way of exploring beyond the Quarter; just be aware that park-
ing in the Quarter is a hassle. Garages charge about $13 for the first three hours and $30
to $35 for 24 hours.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
streetcar fares are $1.25, plus 25ยข for transfers; express buses cost $1.50. Exact change is
required. RTA Visitor Passes for one/three days cost $5/12.
The RTA also operates three
streetcar
lines (one-way $1.25, day pass $3; have exact
change). The historic St Charles streetcar is running only a short loop in the CBD due to
hurricane damage to the Uptown tracks. The Canal streetcar makes a long journey up
Canal St to City Park, with a spur on Carrollton Ave. The Riverfront line runs 2 miles
along the levee from the Old US Mint, past Canal St, to the upriver convention center
and back.
