(222 E Harris St) If you like old churches, you will love it here. Completed in 1896 but
destroyed by fire two years later, this impressive cathedral, reopened in 1912, features
stunning stained-glass transept windows from Austria depicting Christ's ascension into
heaven, as well as ornate Station of the Cross woodcarvings from Bavaria. The pipe or-
gan is equally spectacular.

was once the most successful black-owned bank in America, this private museum fo-
cuses on the local history of segregated schools, hotels, hospitals, jobs and lunch coun-
ters. Push the buttons at Levy's lunch counter for a stinging dramatization.

little storefront on Habersham St, this outfit offers two-hour bike tours on its fleet of
cruisers (with baskets of course).
Sleeping
Luckily for travelers, it's become stylish for Savannah hotels and B&Bs to serve hors
d'oeuvres and wine to guests in the evening. Cheap sleeps are difficult to find and all ac-
commodations should be booked in advance.

( 912-236-2707; www.azaleainn.com ; 217 E Huntingdon St; r from $199; ) A humble
stunner on a quiet street, we love this sweet canary-yellow historic inn near Forsyth Park.
The 10 rooms aren't huge, but are well done with varnished dark-wood floors, crown
mouldings, four-post beds and a small dipping pool out back.
