; 232 W Hancock Ave; mains $20-28;

An effortlessly cool bistro on the down-
town outskirts, favored for the kale Caesar, the peppery crawfish bisque, a nice pan-roas-
ted trout, and mussels steamed in an orange-saffron-chili vinaigrette. The bar is one
where you may want to sit and sip a while.
Drinking & Entertainment
Nearly 100 bars and restaurants dot Athens' compact downtown area, so it's not hard to

Normal Bar
BAR
(
www.facebook.com/normal.bar.7
; 1365 Prince Ave; 4pm-2am Mon-Thu, from 3pm Fri & Sat)
This lovable dark storefront bar, a bit out of the way in Normal Town, is very un-student
but still very much Athens. The beer goes from PBR cheap to local craftsman IPA-
sophiticati. It has a terrific wine list and the crowd is young, cute and doesn't care either
way.
Grab a candlelit booth inside, belly up to the bar or hang on the back patio.
Flicker
BAR
(
www.flickertheatreandbar.com
; 263 W Washington St; 4pm-2am Mon-Fri, from 1pm Sat)
A
happening hipster scene simmers. It hosts live bands and has a slender smoking patio
populated with intellectual, self-confident hairdos and the occasional vaguely sexy fire
twirler. It's always busy. Even on Monday nights.
Cutter's
SPORTS BAR
(

;
120 E Clayton St; 2:30pm-2am Mon-Fri, from noon Sat)
A
popular sports bar with gargantuan flatscreens. If victory is grasped by the UGA Bull-
dogs, the interior becomes a sloshed dance hall of depravity. But in a good way.
Walker's Coffee & Pub
PUB
(
www.walkerscoffee.com
;
128 College Ave; 7am-2am)
Where grad students and a few soph-
isticated under grads stretch out in the built-in wooden booths that wrap around the
room. It specializes in an array of liquored-up coffee drinks. But you can get a sensible
coffee here too.
