Getting There & Away
Atlanta's huge Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL; Atlanta; www.atlanta-air-
port.com ) , 12 miles north of downtown, is a major regional hub and an international gate-
way.
The Greyhound terminal (232 Forsyth St) is next to the MARTA Garnett station. Some
destinations include Nashville, TN (five hours), New Orleans, LA (10½ hours), New
York (20 hours), Miami, FL (16 hours) and Savannah, GA (4¾ hours).
The Amtrak station (1688 Peachtree St NW, at Deering Rd) is just north of downtown.
Getting Around
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA; 404-848-5000;
www.itsmarta.com ; fares $2.50) rail line travels to/from the airport to downtown, along with
less useful commuter routes. Each customer must purchase a Breeze card ($1), which can
be loaded and reloaded as necessary.
The shuttle and car-rental agencies have desks in the airport, situated at baggage claim.
Driving in Atlanta can be infuriating. You'll often find yourself sitting in traffic jams,
and it's easy to get disoriented - Google Maps is invaluable. Some cyclists brave the city
streets.
