Rates at downtown hotels tend to fluctuate wildly depending on whether there is a large
convention in town. The least expensive option is to stay in one of the many chain hotels
along the MARTA line outside downtown and take the train into the city for sightseeing.
Hotel Artmore BOUTIQUE HOTEL$$$

funky art-deco gem wins all sorts of accolades: excellent service, a wonderful, wine-in-
viting courtyard with fire pit and a superb location across the street from Arts Center
MARTA station. The 1924 Spanish-Mediterranean architectural landmark was com-
pletely revamped in 2009 resulting in an artistic boutique hotel that's become an urban
sanctuary for those who appreciate their trendiness with a dollop of discretion. Parking is
$18.
Hotel Indigo BOUTIQUE$$$
( 404-874-9200; www.hotelindigo.com ; 683 Peachtree St; r $129-179; ) A boutique-style
hotel that's actually part of a chain, the Indigo has a boisterous blue color scheme and a
sunny personality. More important is the outstanding Midtown location, across the street
from restaurants and entertainment and within walking distance of MARTA. Parking
costs $18.
Highland Inn INN$$$
( 404-874-5756; www.thehighlandinn.com ; 644 N Highland Ave; r from $81; ) This
European-style inn, built in 1927, has appealed to touring musicians over the years.
Rooms aren't huge, and that carpet is a bit threadbare, but it's as affordably comfy as At-
lanta gets and is well located in the Virginia-Highland area. Paying $10 more gets you a
much bigger room and a queen bed.
