This low-key West End bistro serves a business crowd some
good New American grub. With a house-smoked pork loin, vegetarian moussaka, maple
bourbon duck breast and tasty entree salads, there really is something for everyone in this
dark-wood, intimately lit dining room. The only issue we had was that 1980s smooth jazz
soundtrack. Ain't this Nashville?!

This Music Row gatsropub does everything from a Thai Cobb
salad to wood-grilled artichokes to Ozzie-style meat pies to steak and seafood. All af-
fordably priced. It has a nice whiskey list, and a handsome minimalist interior of moul-
ded concrete booths, brick walls and built-in book cases.

About 20 miles south of Nashville off I-65, the historic town of

has a charming downtown and beautiful B&Bs. It was also
the site of one of the Civil War's bloodiest battlefields. On November 30, 1864,
37,000 men (20,000 Confederates and 17,000 Union soldiers) fought over a 2-mile
stretch of Franklin's outskirts. Nashville's sprawl has turned much of that battle-
field into suburbs, but the
