The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine ( 304-256-1747; www.beckleymine.org ; adult/child
$20/12; 10am-6pm Apr-Oct) in nearby Beckley is a museum for the region's coal herit-
age. Visitors can descend 1500ft to a former coal mine. Bring a jacket, as it's cold under-
ground!

Edmond Rd; dm $23; ) , located less than 1 mile north of the New River Gorge Bridge,
has basic, clean rooms and plenty of common space. Owner Joy Marr is a wealth of local
information. Two miles south of the bridge, Rifrafters Campground ( 304-574-1065;
www.rifrafters.com ; Laurel Creek Rd; campsites per person $12, cabins d/q $40/80) has primitive
campsites, comfy cabins and hot-shower and bathroom facilities.
