In-Depth Information
( 410-276-5480; 201 E Fort Ave, Federal Hill; 5pm-2am) Slip past the door that's papered
with bumper stickers into a dark bar lit by sexy red Christmas lights and a bartenders'
smile. Or, as the case may be, a bartender's surliness (good-hearted surliness, though). A
watercolor of Elvis looks down upon you customers, blessing your cheap beers.
Ale Mary's BAR
( 410-276-2044; 1939 Fleet St, Fell's Point; from 4pm Mon-Thu, from 11:30am Fri-Sun) Its
name and decor pay homage to Maryland's Catholic roots, with crosses and rosaries
scattered about.
One-Eyed Mike's PUB
( 410-327-0445; 708 S Bond St, Fell's Point; 11am-2am) Handshakes and a hearty wel-
come will make you feel right at home at this popular pirate-themed spot. With tin ceil-
ings and old-world details, it's one of Baltimore's oldest taverns.
Little Havana BAR
( 410-837-9903; 1325 Key Hwy, Federal Hill; from 11:30am) A good after-work spot and a
great place to sip mojitos on the waterfront deck, this converted brick warehouse is a ma-
jor draw on warm, sunny days (especially around weekend brunch time).
Hippo GAY
( www.clubhippo.com ; 1 W Eager St; from 4pm) The Hippo has been around forever and is
still one of the city's largest gay clubs (though some nights the dance floor is dead), with
themed nights (gay bingo, karaoke and hip-hop).
Grand Central GAY & LESBIAN
( www.centralstationpub.com ; 1001 N Charles St, Mt Vernon; 9pm-2am Wed-Sun) More of a
complex than a club, Central spreads a fancy to suit all moods - dance floor, pub and
Sappho's (free admission for the ladies). Probably boasts B's best dance floors.
Entertainment
Baltimoreans love sports. The town plays hard and parties even harder, with tailgating
parties in parking lots and games showing on numerous televisions.
