Grafton Notch State Park HIKING

pretty mountain scenery, waterfalls and lots of trails of varying lengths.
Sunday River Ski Resort SKIING

Sunday River has eight mountain peaks and 132 trails, with 16 lifts. It's regarded as one
of the region's best family ski destinations. It also offers summer activities, including
chairlift rides, canoeing, ATV tours and a mountain-bike park. Two huge lodges have
more than 400 rooms.

Chapman Inn B&B$

by a friendly globe-trotting retiree, this roomy downtown guesthouse has character in
spades. The nine private rooms are done up in florals and antiques, with slightly sloping
floors attesting to the home's age. The cozy common space is stocked with Monopoly
and other rainy-day games. In winter, skiers bunk down in the snug dorm, complete with
a wood-paneled game room presided over by a massive mounted moose head. Breakfast,
a lavish spread of homemade pastries and made-to-order omelets, will keep you full for a
day on the slopes. And, oh, if you feel a cold draft, it's probably just the ghost of little
Abigail Chapman, the daughter of the home's 19th-century owner.

place to stay in downtown Bethel, this historic inn has 17 rooms, a pub with 29 beers on
tap, pizza and live weekend entertainment. It also has an excellent dinner restaurant
serving Maine-centric fare (mains $18 to $26).
