MAINE
Maine is New England's frontier - a land so vast it could swallow the region's five other
states with scarcely a gulp. The sea looms large with mile after mile of sandy beaches,
craggy sea cliffs and quiet harbors. While time-honored fishing villages and seaside lob-
ster joints are the fame of Maine, inland travel also offers ample reward. Maine's rugged
interior is given over to rushing rivers, dense forests and lofty mountains just aching to
be explored.
As a traveler in Maine, your choices are as spectacularly varied as the landscape. You
can opt to sail serenely along the coast on a graceful schooner or rip through white-water
