the southern end of Crawford Notch State Park, this quiet state-run campground has 36
tent sites with a nicely kept bathhouse, showers and laundry facilities. Thirty of the sites

Mt Washington
From Pinkham Notch (2032ft), on NH 16 about 11 miles north of North Conway, a sys-
tem of hiking trails provides access to the natural beauties of the Presidential Range, in-
cluding lofty Mt Washington (6288ft), the highest mountain east of the Mississippi and
north of the Smoky Mountains.
Hikers need to be prepared: Mt Washington's weather is notoriously severe and can
turn on a dime. Dress warmly - not only does the mountain register New England's cold-
est temperatures (in summer, the average at the summit is 45°F/7°C) but unrelenting
