Newport Jazz Festival MUSIC

reads like a who's who of jazz, with the likes of Dave Brubeck and Wynton Marsalis.
Newport Music Festival MUSIC

an informal and knowledgeable host. Book as early as you can. The tiny guesthouse con-
tains fixings for a simple breakfast, a laundry machine and spare, clean digs in a dormit-
ory room. Private rooms are available but you need to enquire by email.
Stella Maris Inn INN$$$

quiet, stone-and-frame inn has numerous fireplaces, heaps of black-walnut furnishings,
Victorian bric-a-brac and some floral upholstery. Rooms with garden views rent for less
than those overlooking the water. The owner can be a bit gruff, but the prices are good
(for Newport, that is). Oddly, it doesn't accept credit cards.
