Live Music
Club Passim
FOLK MUSIC
( 617-492-7679;

;
47 Palmer St; tickets $15-30; Harvard)
Folk music in Bo-
ston seems to be endangered outside of Irish bars, but the legendary Club Passim does
such a great job booking top-notch acts that it practically fills in the vacuum by itself.
The colorful, intimate room is hidden off a side street in Harvard Sq, and those attending
shows are welcome to order filling dinners from
Veggie Planet
, an incredibly good res-
taurant that shares the space.
Red Room @ Café 939
LIVE MUSIC
(

;
939 Boylston St; Hynes)
Run by Berklee students, the Red Room @ 939
is emerging as one of Boston's best music venues. The place has an excellent sound sys-
tem and a baby grand piano; most importantly, it topics interesting, eclectic up-and-com-
ing musicians. This is where you'll see that band that's about to make it big. Buy tickets

LIVE MUSIC
(

;
52 Church St; tickets $15-18; 11am-1am Tue-Sun, 5pm-1am Mon;
Harvard)
Great new small venue to see and hear live music. The acoustics are excellent
and the mezzanine level allows you to escape the crowds on the floor. The club attracts a
good range of local and regional bands and DJs. Bonus: under the direction of Michael
Schlow, the attached kitchen puts out some delicious and downright classy food (though
service seems to be a little spotty).
Classical Music & Theater
The big venues in the Theater District are lavish affairs, all restored to their early-20th-
century glory.
