birthed the blues, while New Orleans opened the door to jazz. Rock and
roll arrived the day Elvis Presley walked into Sun Studio ( Click here ) in Memphis.
And country made its way from fiddle-and-banjo Appalachian hamlets to
Nashville's Grand Ole Opry ( Click here ). The Mississippi River took the music
north, where Chicago and Detroit riffed into the electric blues and Motown sound,
